Join us Saturday, September 17th for a special day with some of our sisters from Kenya!

AmaniDC is proud to welcome some of our artisans and leaders from the Amani ya Juu center in Nairobi, Kenya.

These five women are leaders at Amani Kenya. Elizabeth oversees patterns and materials in Distribution. Jerita encourages women in Production. Bella maintains excellence in Tie and Dye. Trizah records and checks work in Quality Control. Joyce provides leadership in Administration. They are coming to the US to share about the work of Amani ya Juu and catch a glimpse of its impact here.

Plan to join us in the Amani boutique for a day of activities to welcome our guests! Throughout the day, we’ll have some special activities going on…

10:00 AM – 5:00 PM |OPEN HOUSE RECEPTION
Ever wondered about the details of silk screen? Curious how Jerita makes all those adorable “Going on Safari” Baby Books? Wondering how Amani ensures that its business practices are just? These are the folks to ask!

Stop in for a cup of chai and a delicious treat throughout the day. Chat with one of these ladies about their role in the process of making Amani products. Check out some new products just arrived from Kenya, Liberia, and Burundi.

11:00 AM – 1:00 PM | PAPER BEAD MAKING DEMONSTRATION

Paper beads are incorporated into lots of Amani products, including the ever-popular jewelry. We’ll be doing a demonstration to show you how these unique beads can be created from found materials you likely have in your home. Watch how it’s done, and then give it a try yourself!

3:00 – 5:00 PM | AMANI WATOTO for KIDS

Amani Watoto (“Children of Peace”) is an outreach initiative of the Amani women to teach children the principles of peace. Our visitors are excited to replicate their day camp program with children here in DC with songs, activities, and stories for preschool and elementary-aged children. Bring your parents along too! *A $10 per child suggested donation will go to support the Amani Watoto camps in Kenya.*

If you’re planning on joining us for either of the special activities, please post a comment on the wall below to let us know.

*We’ve extended our shop hours to 5:00pm for this special day!*

  1. What a gift to have these women join Amani in dc! Is there a chance that I can get in touch with these ladies via telephone or skype sometime they are in the states? Colorado is too far to travel to this event!
